TWO retired men from a forces background are undertaking a mammoth 95-mile cycle next week in aid of Stresscare — a charity that aims to reduce symptoms of trauma and stress in ex-service personnel. Nick Morgan, 62, and Peter Evans, 72, a retired police inspector, are to battle the Dartmoor Way, a circular cycling route around Dartmoor on September 27, which they aim to complete in under ten hours. The pair will start from Bedford Square in Tavistock at 7.30am and cycle anti-clockwise through Yelverton, Clearbrook, Cornwood, Ivybridge, Buckfastleigh, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Moretonhampstead, Throwleigh, Okehampton, Lydford and back to Bedford Square before sunset. Nick, a retired GP from the Royal Navy, said: 'This distance in one day at the end of September is not to be undertaken lightly — especially for us, neither of whom are at our physical prime, regrettably — and we have been doing sensible training in preparation. 'I have a military medical background and I had been involved in the Falklands War and I can identify with people who have experienced trauma. I felt that doing the cycle ride was a way to give back. 'I feel confident that we can do this.' Stresscare's founder member, trustee, course co-ordinator and former Tavistock Mayor Caroline Keane, said that the 'Stresscare Cycle' was an amazing opportunity to increase awareness and raise funds for the charity: 'It makes me so proud that the trustees of Stresscare, at their age, are cycling 95-miles around Dartmoor in one day in support of clients and their families recovering from the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and associated conditions.' In recognition of two successful programmes,  the National Lottery has awarded further funding to support an on-going third delivery of the ten week Stresscare ColourWheel Self Empowerment Programme which will commence from March 2015 in Tavistock. Caroline added: 'When Stresscare achieves the internationally recognised accreditation necessary we will be able to promote the programmes uses and benefits more widely and make it more accessible for people suffering from stress and trauma health related conditions. 'The objective of the secondary support programme is to enable clients and their families to achieve positive health and wellbeing by experiencing colour immersion based therapies whilst engaging in associated activities in order to re-frame negative triggers with positive associations. 'As confirmed through independent evaluations, the results verify that the debilitating condition of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and stress and trauma related health conditions need not adversely affect everyone's ongoing absolute right to live a fulfilling, rewarding and positive life for themselves and their families.'
