YOUR article, on the front page of November 29th's edition, makes assumptions in stating that many Tavistock residents disagree with the conclusions of the independent retail study and want yet another sizeable supermarket.
That is very doubtful when the number of residents requesting a referendum is less than 2%! Since that large supermarket's appeal was lost, Lidl's has opened, thus filling the remaining niche in Tavistock's food market provision.
Those residents not appreciating the diversity and delights of all that Tavistock's food retailers offer, can always consider moving away to be closer to the retail behemoths they crave. Meanwhile, the currently silent majority of discerning shoppers, from inside and outside Tavistock, should prepare to stand up, in any future 'surveys', and be counted, as regular, satisfied users of the town's more-than-adequate retail outlets.
