RUGBY legend Martin Johnson is encouraging West Devon residents to join in a charity bike ride around Burrator Reservoir. NSPCC's Big Bike Ride is looking for cyclists to take part in an organised ride at the reservoir near Yelverton on Sunday, July 1 between 10am and 4pm in a bid to end child cruelty. The three and a half mile ride is suitable for families and will circle the reservoir. Martin said: 'As a dad I know how important the work of the NSPCC is. 'For many children a lack of love and support and the years of abuse and neglect have a significant impact on their confidence and self esteem, making it harder for them to achieve their full potential. 'Whatever your age or fitness level, the emphasis over the weekend is to have fun and ride at your own pace.' All money raised from the event will help make a difference to the lives of children in the South West as 85% of the charity's income comes from donations and fundraising. The NSPCC hopes to raise £300,000 this year. For more information contact Sam Doel on 01822 853696 or Alison Armer, NSPCC's community fundraising manager for Devon, on 01752 846218.
