DARTMOOR National Park Authority is seeking 12 people to sit on an advisory group.

Moor Than Meets the Eye is a partnership for local residents, businesses, farmers, visitors and agencies to work together to share, understand and appreciate the unique historic landscape of south east Dartmoor and to contribute to its future.

A spokesman for the DNPA said: 'This is one of the most important projects that Dartmoor has seen for many years and vital to its success is the involvement of local people.

'Dartmoor National Park Authority is currently looking for 12 people to sit in a local stakeholders group. This group will advise the Moor Than Meets the Eye Landscape Partnership Board of the views of the local community and a variety of user groups in the development and delivery of this project.'

Applications will be welcomed from representatives from local communities in and around the project area, and from representatives from user or local interest groups, particularly with interests in the environment, history, agriculture, recreation, education, youth and business.

The project is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).  A grant has already been awarded to fund further work on developing the project, with more detailed plans due to go to HLF in January 2014.  If these are approved, nearly £2-million will be provided by HLF towards the project's anticipated budget of more than £3.8-million to be delivered over five years.

For further details about the local stakeholders group, contact Steve Scoffin, the Moor Than Meets the Eye project manager. Steve can be reached by telephone on 01626 831026 or mobile 07513 801273.

Completed applications need to be returned by Monday March 11, and the first meeting of the Local Stakeholders Group is likely to be held on Thursday, March 21.
