WAR veterans, forces personnel and representatives from four local British Legion clubs gathered in Tavistock on Sunday for a parade to mark the 60th anniversary of VE day. The parade, led by the Tavistock Stannary Brass Band, began in Russell Street and made its way to Guild Hall Square where a service was held and a wreath laid at the war memorial by president of the Tavistock British Legion Peter Roberts. Members of Lamerton, Walkhampton and Bere Alston British Legion Clubs joined in the event together with RAF cadets from Tavistock. The public lined the streets to watch the parade which ended up at the British Legion Club in Tavistock where a special celebration was held. John Lashbrook from Tavistock British Legion said he was pleased with the large amount of people who joined in the parade and it was a good opportunity for a get together with old friends to mark the anniversary of the end of World War Two.
