A YELVERTON-based building company recently celebrated an employee's fiftieth anniversary of working with the firm.

Farnham Bros (Youldon and Barrett Ltd) celebrated with employee Tony Greep who has worked an unbroken 50 year period of employment with the firm.

Tony joined the company in 1962 as a carpenter and joiner apprentice.

The person who welcomed Tony into the workshops was Ron Price from Yelverton, now 93 years old, who returned to celebrate the anniversary with Tony.

When Farnham Bros took over Youldon and Barett Ltd in 1967, Tony was encouraged to continue his building construction studies and eventually became a general foreman and then site agent with the company, working on many prestigious contracts, including the restoration of Buckland Abbey, Maristow House, Plympton House, Buckfast Abbey and many new house building developments.

Ken Farnham, managing director of Farnham Bros (Youldon and Barrett Ltd), said: 'Tony's work with the firm has been immensely successful over this long period of time during which he has contributed to the company's success in winning many awards, including Master Builder of the Year on two occasions.

'He has made many long term friendships with our clients who have been grateful for his knowledge, advice and never failing ability to address and deal with building construction problems.'

Tony will continue working with the company but on a shorter working week, finding more time to pursue his many hobbies, fishing, pencils and paper sketches, water colour and pastel painting, walking and photography.

The firm and Tony's colleagues presented him with a camera and photography equipment.
