RESIDENTS of West Devon are beating previous recycling records as the recycling of material from the green recycling box soars — this means more waste than ever is being diverted from landfill sites and transformed into new products.

Initial figures show residents are now recycling more than half of their household waste, an increase of 7% over last year.

With all the extra recycling, residents can help the recycling crews and speed up collection by sorting materials by type, either by grouping materials into recycling boxes or separating materials in bags.

Residents are asked to remember that recycling is collected weekly, and to avoid storing up large quantities of materials.

Recycling tonnages are expected to increase further as a full year of the new service is reached in September.
