YOUNG Rebecca Woodland loves school and that is evident from her record-breaking attendance — the 11-year-old has not missed a day at Okehampton Primary School in four years.

Rebecca received a special certificate from the school last week to mark her four-year attendance record which headteacher Brian Cunningham has never seen in his 20-year teaching career.

'It's a first for me and for Okehampton Primary School as far as I am aware,' he said.

'These days there is enormous pressure for families to take holidays out of term time and pupils occasionally tend to be off through colds and sickness they have picked up at school.

'The education welfare officer looks at attendance in schools and is so often dealing with the down side and chasing people who have not been attending school regularly, so this is a real plus.'

He said that Rebecca was a delightful child and he wished her continued success at Okehampton College where she would start in September.

Children are presented with a certificate each year if they attend every school day from September 8 to July 14 and this year 30 pupils were the recipients.

Rebecca's mum Caroline Woodland said her daughter was never ill and she loved school

'She never wants to miss a day and this year especially she wanted to get her certificate,' she said.
