CHILDREN at a West Devon primary school have raised more than £800 for charity by taking part in a national reading event. Pupils from South Tawton Primary School took part in the national Readathon, which raises funds for the Sargent Cancer Care for Children charity and the Roald Dahl Foundation. The money is spent locally, caring for children and young people suffering from cancer, Hodgkin?s disease, leukaemia, epilepsy, blood disorders or acquired brain injury. In all, the children raised £836.81 for the Readathon. Headteacher Bobby Sutton said: ?We are delighted to have taken part in Readathon. ?It encouraged our children to read for enjoyment and at the same time, help other children in the area who are not as well as themselves.? Brough Girling, Readathon chairman, said: ?We are thrilled that children from South Tawton school have enjoyed reading lots of books and we, and the charities, would like to thank them for all the money they have raised.?
