PEOPLE in the Sourton area are being urged to ?ramble, amble or scramble? across an undulating moorland route next month to raise funds for the village hall. The Sourton Scramble takes place on Sunday, April 24, setting off at 10.30am from Sourton Village Hall with the emphasis on fun and getting fit. The event is being held to raise funds towards a new heating system for the hall. The route will be a 5.2-mile loop starting from the hall, taking in part of the cycle path to Meldon then back across the edge of Dartmoor to Sourton. The run will be followed by a barbecue and there will be medals for the leading finishers. Organiser Alison Horn said members of Okehampton Women?s Running Club had already signed up to take part, but the scramble was also open to walkers or those with little previous running experience. ?We want people to challenge themselves,? Alison said. ?It is about supporting your community. ?We have had a really encouraging response because this area has been crying out for a run for a while.? She said if this run ?the first the committee had organised ? was a success, it was hoped it could be held again next year and become an annual event. Alison added: ?It?s a great way to have some fun and one of the best ways to appreciate Dartmoor.? The Sourton Scramble costs £5 to enter and entrants must be 16 and over. Entry forms are available from Alison Horn on 01837 861223 or Alison Ewing on 01837 861285. It will also be possible to enter on the day.
