FAMILY and close friends of a young Tavistock man, who died suddenly earlier this year, ran just over 13- miles in the Bristol Half Marathon raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Jason Paul Langdon, who was fit and healthy, died unexpectedly in April at the age of 26.

His mother Jane Martin and family and friends Aaron Langdon, Sammy and Jon Farish and Sean and Gemma Cann completed the 13.1-mile run with support from other family members Jonathon Langdon, Amber-leigh Langdon, Andrew Martin, Sue Cann, Carl Parsons and team Mascot Lillie-Mae.

The runners have so far raised £4,187.18 for the cause.

Jane Martin said: 'Our initial fundraising target was £1,000 and we have been taken aback by the support and generosity shown by both people who knew Jason and even those who didn't but whose hearts had been touched by our story.

'Money was donated on Just Giving, as well as local sponsorship and events we held to raise awareness for CRY.

'We'd like to thank Dart Print and Tavy Signs, who kindly made our kit unique to Jason and ActiveCo for supporting us with kit and tips.

'We would especially like to thank Francis and Pam from The Union Inn for their kind support and willingness to get involved in everything we did — including Francis being waxed in public!'

The family also expressed thanks to Sean and Gemma Cann who, in lieu of wedding gifts, raised £719.46 for CRY and local businesses, including Texaco, Tavy Textiles and Gypsy Rose for raising funds and showing their support.
