A TEAM of students from Tavistock College has won a national competition with their proposal for a new promotional campaign for the Young Persons' Railcard.

Team members Catherine Rich, Jourdan Spriddle and Georgina Vickers took the gold medal in the 2008 Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) national sixth form competition.

The girls also won £1,000 and IPODs.

The annual challenge is part of the IDM's ongoing education programme which aims to inform and attract a continuous stream of new young talent into the marketing profession.

The winning team impressed the judges with their integrated campaign ideas and the IDM patrons' audience of senior marketing professionals commented on their clear identification and segmentation of the market.

Team leader Jourdan Spriddle, who is going on to study business at the University of Plymouth, said she was delighted with the head start the win had given her for next year and the insight which she gained from meeting leading industry executives in London.

Toni Dustan, Becky Holland and Oli Amann achieved a highly commended award and cash prize for the school in the same competition.

Teachers Emma Berryman and Ian Barnes praised the hard work and determination of both groups.
