Okehampton 4

OKEHAMPTON men's hockey team produced another solid performance to keep them in contention at the top of the league.

Okehampton attacked from the outset and early pressure from the forwards earned a short corner. A good delivery from Phil Hampson gave Reinier Rademaker the opportunity to open the scoring.

Continued Okehampton pressure led to a number of scoring opportunities and Reinier added a second with a superb reverse stick strike.

Okehampton's determination to play good hockey gave Plymouth few opportunities to counter attack, when the did Okehampton defended their circle with confidence.

Using the whole width of the pitch Okehampton spread the Plymouth defence and created spaces, for their midfield to attack. Richard Jones making the most of one such gap, unleashed a hard shot at goal only for it to be illegally stopped on the line by a Plymouth defender. He made no mistake in converting the resulting penalty flick.

Plymouth came out in the second half with more determination, and put Okehampton back into defensive mode.

But Okehampton's Sean Glossop worked hard up front without reward and Chris Luxton was unlucky not to have a goal awarded when the ball appeared to cross the goal line. Reinier completed his hat-trick in the closing stages and Okehampton ran out winners.

This week Okehampton are scheduled to play Marjons on the Okehampton College pitch. Last week's flood damage to the surface has unfortunately put the venue in doubt. 'Home' fixtures could create a problem for the club over the next few weeks until the pitch has been cleared for use again.
