A NEW mini produce market organised by Tamar Grow Local will be taking place at Calstock Quay on Saturday, April 6 between 10am and 2pm.

The market will become a regular feature in the village on the first Saturday of each month. On sale will be food and drink which has been grown or made in the Tamar Valley, including, apple juice, jams and preserves, flowers, and seasonal fruit and vegetables.

Simon Platten from Tamar Grow Local said: 'We're really excited that there will be a new produce market in Calstock.

'We're starting small but hope that we will get a regular following and be able to grow with demand.

'We have a great range of small producers in the valley now and hope the new Calstock market will be a good showcase for them and encourage more people to shop locally.'

Whenever possible, produce will be delivered to market by SailTrade's Yealm Crabber 'Shamrock'.

Built in the 1890s, Shamrock will be powered by sail and timed with the tides and, along with the market produce, be delivering a shipment of seaweed gathered from Cawsand for Calstock Allotments.

The boat will then be loaded up again to deliver produce back up the river to the Royal William Yard in Plymouth for the Tamar Grow Local stall at the Good Food Market the following day.

Tamar Grow Local's mixed produce stall will also be located at Cotehele Quay on the last Saturday of each month.
