AN illustrated talk about Devon Aid Korogwe (DAK) was given at Broadwoodwidger Primary School recently, which saw the children taking part in a mile long walk around the school grounds to help them to identify with the children in the poor villages of East Africa, where water is so precious.
The children raised £74.75 when they spent Pancake Day raising funds on a sponsored walk for DAK, carrying buckets of water (pictured) to show them what it is like for the children in Korogwe.
Founder of DAK, Vivien England, said: 'We always emphasise the need for water in Korogwe. It was great that the school took part in this. It really taught the children what it is like for the poorer children in these villages and it was fantastic that they were so keen to get involved and show their support.
'We make sure we visit the villages to see that everything is being done properly. We have supplied wells, pipe lines and rain water harvesting.'
DAK had their 12th annual wine and wisdom event recently, when they held a quiz to help raise £900 for a village in Tanzania to access clean water.
Twenty seven teams took part in the quiz, which was held in Bratton Clovelly parish hall.
