TAVISTOCK Primary School recently took part, along with 14 other local schools, in the Tavistock area cross country series event, which was made up of three races.

The first of these was in January at St Peters. Tavistock Primary took the overall lead in both the girls' and boys' races with Emily Attfield in first place in the girls' race closely followed by her team-mates Polly Moule sixth, Maddie Handel eighth, Gemma Arundel eleventh, Ismay Drummond 32nd, and Neev Elliott 50th with the first four home scoring vital points for the school.

In the boys' race Jordan Channon came home in first place, followed by Jack Base in second, Ryan Helcoop ninth, Daniel Drummond 13th and Billy Walker 36th.

The second race was in February at Princetown where Tavistock had to do well to maintain their lead. Daisy Pask led the girls' race to finish in first with Emily Attfield a close second with the rest of the girls' team not far behind, all finishing in the top 25. The boys continued the good form with Jordan Channon taking first and Jack Base third with excellent results from the rest of the team.

The final most challenging course was last week at Meavy. On a perfect spring afternoon the girls set off through the field, running out through the woods towards Burrator reservoir. Excellent running saw Daisy Pask finish in second, Polly Moule eighth, Maddie Handel ninth, Natalia Ridgeway 10th and Gemma Arundel 11th. The boys' race finished with Jordan Channon first, Daniel Drummond second, Jack Base fourth, Ryan Helcoop 17th, Billy Walker 20th and James Wallace 25th.

Overall in the competition both Tavistock Primary School's girls and boys' teams took victory overall.
