Tavistock 11 Falmouth 6 AT the end of the game Tavistock felt that the score line did not do them justice, as they were the dominant side throughout the whole of the game. However, a series of unforced errors when they turned over possession in promising position and a hefty penalty count against them meant that they did not turn pressure into points. Of concern to coach Steve Rush would be the way the line out disintegrated in the second half when Tavistock lost too much of their own put in. Tavistock started well and threatened Falmouth with some flowing back play but having two tries disallowed for knock-ons in the approach to the line meant that after the first quarter the only points on the board were from a long range penalty goal from fly half Josh Sutton. As the half wore on Falmouth came back into the game and with Tavistock making errors they kept their hosts pinned deep in their own territory for long periods of time. Absorbing this pressure the Tavistock defence looked sound, led by some excellent tackling around the fringes by Paul Greeenhill and in the centre from Duncan Law. Tavistock turned around after half time and applied pressure via the pack and eventually skipper Jake Phillips crossed for a try to extend the lead. Falmouth after exerting pressure on Tavistock reduced the arrears to 8 ? 6 with two penalty goals from Jamie Instance. As the game drew toward its conclusion Josh Sutton calmed Tavistock nerves with a second penalty that saw them run out the winners. l This weekend sees Tavistock entertain Devonport Services in round two of the EDF National Senior Vase, kick off 3pm.
