THE postmen of Tavistock and Yelverton will be walking several miles to help towards fulfilling the dream of a young boy.

The postmen are trying to raise funds for Eliot Minns, a boy from Horrabridge who at only three years old struggles with renal failure and is fighting liver cancer.

Eliot has end-stage renal failure and was on the waiting list for a kidney transplant until he was diagnosed with a tumour on his liver. He recently had an operation to remove 40% of his liver and has undergone 12 weeks of chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, he cannot be put back on the transplant waiting list until he has been clear of cancer for three years.

Despite his ongoing illness, Eliot's dream is to go to Euro Disney and the postmen are hoping to help make this become a reality, by doing a sponsored walk from Merrivale to Horrabridge.

Postman Darren Chappell said: 'I heard about Eliot on my post round, and I explained his situation to the other postmen and we decided we should do something to help. We're hoping to raise about £1,000 to cover the insurance cost of his trip.'

The postmen will finish their walk at the Leaping Salmon in Horrabridge, which has already been raising money for Eliot.

'The Leaping Salmon have already held a pool marathon to raise money,' said Darren. 'Eliot's parents are hoping to take him to Euro Disney for five or six days depending on how he is. Hopefully we can help get him there.'

Anyone who would like to support the postmen's sponsored walk can donate money by calling Darren on 07810 120774 or donations can be given to any Tavistock or Yelverton postman.
