A MUCH loved Tavistock woman has waved goodbye to her Devonshire family for the home county of Hertfordshire.

June Wildman, a popular Tavistock resident for 30 years, has decided it is time to return to her roots and be closer to her three sons and grandchildren.

One of June’s main achievements in the town was being a founder member of Tavistock Memory Café, a charity which provides a range of activities for those living with dementia and offers sessions where carers can obtain support, advice and information.

It was due to her commitment and compassion to those who have faced dementia challenges that she was chosen as the winner in the ‘over 18 category’ for this year’s Mayoral Awards by West Devon Borough Council out of 13 other nominees in May this year.

From 1994, June was also an active member of St Eustachius’ Church Choir, which she described as being a family.

‘I am going to miss the choir —they are a family at St Eustachius’.

‘I love Tavistock, I don’t want to go but my common sense tells me I should. We came to Tavistock as we fell in love with it and we weren’t disappointed — but I am going back to my roots.’

June was also a founder member of The Dementia Alliance and as a care ambassador for Devon County Council. Her other achievements, of which she will be able to continue her work in a virtual capacity, include being a representative on the carers strategy forum for Devon County Council.

Scott Angell, director of music at St Eustachius’ Church, said: ‘June has been in Tavistock church choir for many years and given devoted service throughout that entire time. June will be sorely missed by us all, however, she will be joining us on the occasional time for example cathedral away days.’
