I WRITE to express my concern at the prospect of the closure of Meadowlands Leisure Pool in Tavistock. There is a huge need for the pool, for all ages, from babies to grannies, for the able and disabled, and it is ideally located, easily accessible by foot, car and bus. Kelly Pool on the farthest outskirts of the town, has limited parking, and has no public transport links. Our neighbouring towns of Launceston, Liskeard, Saltash, and Plymouth, have good aqua facilities, but are too far, and too expensive to reach. It seems their councils manage their budgets to provide beneficial aqua activities in their areas. We remember David Cameron promising 'Sport for All', but where is it for Tavistock? The promise of a pool to train future Olympians at a nearby public school is commendable, but to offer others the crumbs of a revamped. outdated, inaccessible pool, which is older than Meadowlands is insulting. Shame on you West Devon. Jean Coulthard Horrabridge MEADOWLANDS Pool is used at all times of the day, from babies to the elderly. People need the pool for health reasons. It is conveniently situated near the bus station and the park. The town would also miss out on local business. Kelly College pool is so far out of town and not safe for families to get to, having to walk on the road, as there is no public transport to get there. Also with the pool being graduated, it would be unsuitable for aqua aerobics, bearing in mind the capabilities of some of the users. There is a membership of 50 or 60 a session who would lose out if Meadowlands were to close. Sheila Greatrex. Horrabridge.
