THE security of homes in Tavistock was tested last week. Interested parties, including police officers, Neighbourhood Watch, the Police Community Support Officer and a member of West Devon Borough Council?s Handyperson scheme walked around the town looking for insecurities just as a thief might. The hot weather causes people to leave more insecurities than usual and officers know that burglaries increase as a result. PCSO Kevin Williams said: ?At one address I attended I could see the back door was wide open. When I tried to make contact I discovered the house was empty. A neighbour said the owner was almost certainly at a nearby allotment. This was despite the fact that a close neighbour had been burgled quite recently.? A large number of other insecurities were discovered, not only to houses but to garages, outbuildings and cars. Officers in full uniform were present at all times and anyone seeing anyone else involved in this sort of activity should call the police immediately.
