POLICE disrupted an illegal rave on Dartmoor in the early hours of Sunday, March 9 thanks to a member of the public.

A man camping on Dartmoor with a team in training for Ten Tors called police around 1.10am when vehicles began to arrive at Holming Beam near Princetown.

Police attended and found up to 50 young people gathered at the site with loud music playing.

Officers contained the area and a number of other people were turned away. The organisers agreed to shut down the event and everyone left the site without incident within two hours.

A police spokesman said: 'This was a swift response from local officers to minimise any disruption and damage to the moor. This reinforces the message that Devon and Cornwall Police take a zero tolerance attitude to this type of activity and will take action.'
