IN the first instance, I would like to thank the county council for reducing the speed limit outside my house in Mary Tavy to 30mph.
Cynically, I wonder what for, because it appears to have increased the traffic flow at a greater pace, instead of slowing it down for safety.
I am most anxious to learn if, how or when, there is to be an enforcement, because an accident is there in the making.
I note that on the same road going north towards Okehampton, Lake and slightly short of Sourton, both have calming islands at either end of their section and yet there are hardly any dwellings there on the main road.
I live on the southern section of the main road just 100 yards inside the limit. Not only are there a greater degree of dwellings and inhabitants here, but there are at least ten schoolchildren in the first eight houses and my concerns are for the possible loss of life that is beginning to linger around this main road.
Despite the serenity and charm of the village one must still be aware of the likelihood of an accident on this main road.
Will the county council now take action to either liaise with the police and put a speed camera or radar gun at various times, or make the traffic slow down by means of an obstacle such as an island, speed bumps, roundabout or a calmer?
Please act now before it is too late for someone.
