TAVISTOCK has been warned it could be in for a long haul in its bid to create a plan which would help control development in the area.

Town councillors are steering Tavistock towards a Neighbourhood Development Plan, which will allow residents to have a say in what development goes where. But the steering group has been told by representatives from other communities which have gone through the process that it could take years to complete.

Liz Hitchins from Brixton told Tavistock members that it took the South Hams village, population 1,400, five years to finish. But she said they were generally pleased with their plan and would do it again if asked to.
