A CHAGFORD couple celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary at a party held with family and friends.

Cyril and Jean Wonnacott, who married on July 2 1940, enjoyed a cake and music to mark their special day.

The couple, who have lived in Chagford for most of their married lives, still enjoy spending time on Dartmoor and feeding the birds in their garden.

Cyril, 92, farmed in Chagford working for his late father and them for himself. He was born at Venton Farm near Drewsteignton on March 21 1918.

Jean, 87, who was born at Lakeland Farm on May 28 1923, worked as a hairdresser and often visited residents in their own homes.

The happy couple had five children who later gave them 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
