A PUBLIC Right of Way, linking Simmons Park with the new tennis courts and all-weather pitch area, runs along the inside of the stone wall that forms the eastern border of Okehampton College?s cricket sportsfield. It is clearly shown as a Public Right of Way on the Definitive Map. I have received direct complaints that staff of Okehampton College have been approaching users of this path and telling them that they ?have no right to be there and are trespassing?. I have also heard hearsay stories to the same effect. No-one at Okehampton College has any right to try and prevent the public use of this path. That the college is attempting to do so is of considerable concern and I have requested that the matter be placed on the agenda for the town council parks committee meeting on October 10. It would be of help if anyone who has been accosted by college staff whilst using the path would let me have the details, in strict confidence if requested, before October 10. I can be contacted by telephone on 01837 659604. Cllr Charles Letchford 6 Vicarage Road Okehampton
