MOUNT Kelly was delighted to welcome back two of its former pupils and Paralympic medal winners to see the new 50m pool and to re-visit Mount Kelly Swimming where their swimming careers began.
Visiting were Mikey Jones, who won gold in the S7 100m freestyle and Lauren Steadman, who won silver in the Women’s PT4 triathlon in Rio.
Lauren gave an inspirational talk in College Chapel, met some of the school’s swimmers, admired the Olympic Legacy 50m pool and enthused many of the prep and pre-prep pupils who were lucky enough to have the opportunity to ask her lots of questions and hold her silver medal.
Lauren talked about how much she loved her four years at Kelly College, which became Mount Kelly in 2014, and how grateful she was for all the support of staff and encouraged pupils to make the most of all the ‘amazing opportunities the school has to offer’. She also talked about the ‘importance of determination, self-belief, hard work and endeavour to achieve your goals’.
Mikey Jones caught up with his former school swim coach, director of swimming Robin Brew and was very impressed by the new pool, which is a legacy from the London 2012 Olympics.
‘It was a true pleasure to welcome both Mikey and Lauren back to Mount Kelly,’ said a spokeswoman from the college.
