CRICKET returns to the tiny hamlet of Horndon this summer, as the Elephant?s Nest team takes on Halwill Cricket Club.

The teams will play on a new pitch at the Elephant?s Nest pub.

Landlord Peter Wolfes, who bought the pub with his wife Helen last summer, said the Nest had had its own team for around ten years and the couple decided to create a pitch for them on some of their land.

?It?s beginning to look the part now, we?ve also bought a marquee, so it should look quite fine,? he said.

Peter said he hoped the cricket pitch would become a proper village facility ? ultimately he said he would like to build a pavilion to increase community use even further.

The match on June 8 starts at 7.30pm.

The event coincides with Peter and Helen?s first anniversary at the Elephant?s Nest. In addition to the cricket match, there will be a jazz band playing during the afternoon ? the new pitch will be officially opened by West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett.
