A WEST Devon charity is appealing to people in the area who would like the opportunity to take part in some valuable voluntary work.

Home-Start in Tavistock are keen to hear from people who would like to support families in the local community.

Volunteers, who have all had parenting experience, visit families in their own homes to offer emotional and practical support.

Andrea Chandler, scheme manager, said: 'Volunteering not only benefits the individual families we support but helps create more active and vibrant communities.

'Volunteers receive an initial 40 hours of training but are also offered on-going training opportunities including accreditation options. Many volunteers use the experience as a stepping stone into other training or work.'
