SOME of Tamar and Tavy Gig Club's toughest rowers took part in the 32 mile trip from Clovelly to the beautiful island of Lundy and back along with many others from around Devon and Cornwall.

The three-hour each-way row was a true test of endurance with a strong southerly pull and big choppy broadside swell with the coxes not only having to encourage their crews but also to navigate.

The huge effort needed to fight through the sea didn't end until the gigs were manoeuvred up onto the rocky beach at Lundy and tents erected for the overnight camp.

As always Tamar and Tavy were glad to help other crews and interclub camaraderie prevailed with essential re-hydration in the pub afterwards.

Clovelly Gig Club made everyone very welcome with the Honourable John Rous, owner of the village, present throughout to provide support.

The crews should be immensely proud of their achievement in overcoming such challenging conditions as well as the dehydration, exhaustion and not to mention the blister problems.

A good but exhausting weekend was enjoyed by all who took part.
