HOSPISCARE, the charity which helps cancer patients and their families from the Okehampton area, is appealing for people to donate their old mobile phones to help raise money for the organisation.

Every year, thousands of people upgrade their mobiles and many of these end up in landfill sites, where they take thousands of years to biodegrade.

By recycling old phones, the environment and charities like Hospiscare can benefit.

Cathy Debenham, Hospiscare communications manager, said: 'We get between 50p and £10 for every phone recycled, providing they are complete with battery and charger.

'This is a really easy way for people to support our work - and they get the added benefit of knowing they are not clogging up landfill sites.'

Anyone who would like to recycle their old mobile phone to the benefit of Hospiscare can pick up a freepost pouch from the Hospiscare shop in Okehampton.
