DID you know that Beavers can fly?! No, not the furry kind but the local Okehampton Beavers group undertaking their flying badge.
Cpl Harry Parker and OC of the Okehampton air cadet squadron Sqn Leader Andy Oliver were asked to help out recently with the local Beavers and went along with the unit’s flight simulator. The Beavers were so enthusiastic and excited and shared their lovely flying pictures as well as demonstrating how the main controls of a plane work. They got to wear some of the different RAF and air cadet hats as well as have a go flying the simulator.
Sqn Leader Oliver said: ‘I was impressed that even at such a young age these Beavers really wanted to learn the basic controls and have a go. Who knows? Could there be a future pilot in their midst?
‘We often have cadets go on to become pilots and we are able to support some of them through funded flying scholarships, provided by great organizations such as RAFA.’
Okehampton’s RAF air cadets team accepts new members from Year 8 or above and is hoping for an influx of new members in the new tear.
