IT was encouraging to see the rescue and thanks letter in Letters to the Editor (January 6).
I have a four-wheel drive vehicle which I would consider using in an emergency, but unfortunately I was already involved with various members of our joint families. It would be useful to be able to offer one's services if the snow should happen to fall again. There is still time yet. Where does one register ?
The last time I offered a lift was in a terrible downpour in Basingstoke. My offer was turned down and soon afterwards a PC knocked at my front door to check on me. I happened to be a councillor at the time.
When I was a PC in Portsmouth I was expected to recognise and salute borough councillors. Where has this respect disappeared to?
It is encouraging to see the United Reformed Church being so involved in the town's activities. It is, in reality, an important community, recently hosting 28 different meetings in one week involving almost 500 people.
