ON a cold and overcast day 11 members of Tavistock AC recently took part in the Templer 10. This 10 mile off road race was as well organised as ever by the Teignbridge Trotters and finished alongside the river at Kingsteignton. The race (actually 9.5 miles) offered a chance to get warmed up pretty quickly with a short uphill followed by two miles of road before turning off into fields that ran alongside the river. Although predominately flat the course was interesting and challenging as it weaved its way through the countryside taking in gravelled tracks, wooded forest trails, stony paths and rutted fields before returning to the road for the final two miles. Jim Cole, running for TAC, showed great pace and determination to finish highly placed at 8th. Following Jim and just squeezing under the hour and into the top 25 was V40 runner Chris Eastaugh. Fiona Dunn, having completed three marathons in just seven months, ran strongly to finish as 3rd Lady overall. Finishing behind Fiona, Adam Holland just missed out on a top 50 position. Ade Bower, showing great enthusiasm for his cross country running this year, was pushed hard to the finish line but stayed 2 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Pete Bazley, running his first race as M50 finished about a minute behind Ade. Making the top 100 runners and finishing as 2nd Senior Lady Nicole Heryet crossed the line looking good. Andy Smith, Jeff Lea, Annette Roberts and Kate Batt completed the line up for the club. It was a particularly fine performance from the women as they picked up the Ladies Team prize by the narrowest of margins. Full results for the club were 8th Jim Cole 53:22; 24th Chris Eastaugh 59:49; 49th Fiona Dunn 1:03:03; 51st Adam Holland 1:03:16; 77th Adrian Bower 1:08:11; 86th Peter Bazley 1:09:19; 93rd Nicole Heryet 1:09:58; 120th Andy Smith 1:12:32; 178th Jeff Lea 1:18:51;184th Annette Roberts 1:19:38; 210th Kate Batt 1:24:16.
