Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Tavistock AFC 3 Torpoint 1 THIS was a game that rarely rose above the mediocre with neither side showing any quality or inventiveness in their play. However at the final whistle it was Tavistock who had the smile on their faces securing the points with a less than convincing victory. The game started brightly with the home team awarded a soft penalty on three minutes for a push on Mark Conday which Lee Bevan duly dispatched with his cultured left foot. Alas, within minutes Torpoint drew level when some woeful defending was punished by the visitors. The remainder of the half was largely forgettable as the game became fragmented and scrappy. Glyn Hobbs showed both sides to his game, getting booked for an ill timed challenge then lighting up the game with a run and shot which was well saved. However he seemed subdued and a little lost in a midfield role and this was reflected throughout the team who seemed to lack an urgency and passion about their play. Torpoint were looking anything but championship contenders but the Lambs were no better. The second period continued in the same vein as the first and twice Andy Meeds kept Tavistock in the game with two outstanding saves. On the hour Tavistock made a double substitution in an attempt to break out of their lethergy. Almost immediately this paid off with one of the subs Ryan Honey having a simple tap in to restore the home team?s lead. However the goal was all about Mark Conday who beat two players only to see his shot come off the post for Honey to finish. The goal lifted Tavistock and they upped the tempo with Honey a constant thorn in the visitors? side. With Hobbs also starting to enjoy himself in a more advanced role the gloom began to lift and in added time Hobbs found Conday who finished clinically to seal the points.
