North Tawton 0

IN their first league match of the season North Tawton came up against the newly amalgamated Plymouth side.

Without a recognised outside half Richard Huxtable took on the role and gave a good performance, especially in defence.

So a much changed side for North Tawton held their own for the first 30 minutes. However, Prince got the first breakthrough on the half-hour, with a well-struck penalty to edge them in front in this tough, physical contest.

North Tawton seemed to lose their confidence and it was not long before another home side penalty added to the score.

But with all to play for, North Tawton took a further knock when the front row of the home side crashed over for a try on the stroke of half-time to leave the score at the break 13-0.

North Tawton's spirit was dented, but not beaten and with the hard work of Mike Barney and wing forward Kevin Avery to the fore the game did not look beyond them.

But when Huxtable was sadly yellow carded it was all too much for the visitors. the Plymouth side took full advantage and piled on the pressure with penalties and tries to take a comfortable lead.

Despite some good runs and defence by winger Adrian Grimshaw North Tawton were unable to get back into the game.

A broken but not bowed North Tawton side will take much away with them after showing another spirited display.

l North Tawton are at home to Topsham II in a friendly this Saturday, kick-off 3.00pm - come on down and support the side. The game is followed by North Tawton's annual firework display.
