WORRIES over the future of the post office in South Zeal have been put to rest now owners of the Maid Marion stores have agreed to run the service.

Andrew and Tracey White, who have doubled the size of the shop since they became the new owners a couple of years ago, are waiting for the builders to move in so the relocation of the post office can take place.

Postmistress Diana England has been running the service from her home with her husband David for many years but has had to retire due to illness.

The Whites are hoping to have everything ready by the beginning of July so they can keep the post office going in the village.

'It will just be moving across the road and everything will be exactly the same,' said Mrs White. 'We wanted the post office to stay in the village, particularly for the elderly people and it made sense to have it here.

'We have easy access for the disabled and we are all computerised so it is just a case of getting the building work done.'

Local residents said they very much appreciated Mrs England's service to the community and the long association her family had with the post office which went back 100 years.
