MEMBERS of Tavistock Athletics took part in their second annual club trip at the weekend. This year?s trip took them to the New Forest where members took part in both the half and full marathon. Making their half marathon debut for Tavistock were Shenda Johns and Kirsty Trotter. The race course was mostly through the New Forest on roads which are either closed, or significantly marshalled by the local police and race officials. The weather was fairly hot making the going up some of the hills tough, however there were areas of welcomed shade, abundant drink and sponge stations and good support from the locals. It was a very successful event for Tavistock with both male and female teams winning 1st team prizes. Adam Holland came in overall eighth position with Steve Groombridge and Tony Symonds winning prizes for their age group. Charles Lloyd competed the full marathon in a time of 03:10:20 gaining him an automatic entry in to next year?s London Marathon.
