RECOGNITION is to be given to a handful of Tavistock?s most esteemed townspeople with the creation of a new mark of tribute in Tavistock Town Council Chamber in Drake Road.

This week the council?s finance and general purposes committee approved Cllr Ted Sherrell?s request that a wooden board be erected in the chamber listing the names of the people who have been created Honoured Burgesses since the inception of the award in 1985.

Records show that eight burgesses have been created ? Mrs Dorothea Pinder MBE; Mr George Draper JP MBE; Mr Francis Quant JP; Mr Roland Bailey; Mrs Alice Edna Dathan; Miss Norma Beadle; Mr Roy Minhinnick and Mr John Philpott.
