THE power of music to bring people together is being demonstrated in a recorder-group based at Whitchurch Stables.
Razzmatazz Recorders is an exciting initiative created by enduring recorder-player, Jackie Waddle, who said: 'I have played the recorder since my primary school days and I wanted to revive that interest.'
Founded in 2008, the group meets every six weeks and represents a 30-strong membership with players ranging from 12 years upwards to those in their 60s.
Jackie said: 'We meet between 2pm and 5pm, with a break included. Everyone brings their own ideas and makes suggestions for songs'.
The group encourages an open-learning environment. Filling an identified gap — just a handful of recorder-groups exist in the area — Razzmatazz Recorders has already gained an award of first place in the recorders group category at the 2011 Saltash Music Speech and Drama Festival.
One member, Ann Jones, has ambitions to join the RAF as a musician — she recently picked up first prize in the solo recorder category.
The group provides a mutually supportive environment to develop skills and create social opportunities.
Members will be showcasing their talent at Tavistock's Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, April 30 in Bedford Square. Contact Jackie on 01822 618012 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
