TAVISTOCK Museum opened a new exhibition on Saturday which celebrates the 70th anniversary of the arrival in Tavistock of the US 29th Infantry Division.

Vehicles and re-enactors assembled outside the museum to promote the event and also paraded through the town. One of the vehicles was the jeep, Vixen Tor,  which is an exact copy of the jeep used by Major General Gerhardt who was the commander of the 29th Infantry.

The town crier, David Turner, joined in and announced the exhibition. It was a lovely sunny day — museum was pleased to announce that it had at least 225 visitors that day.

The exhibition will be running daily from 11am to 3pm until October. Entry is free.

The event also attracted the interest of ITV West Country which ran a bulletin on it on its news which was broadcast on Easter Monday evening.
