THE 31st Bere Ferrers Watersports Day held last Saturday was more popular than ever, with no less than seven teams competing in a series of challenges in the murky mud of the River Tavy.
Visitors and villagers turned out in droves to watch the five races, including pallet race, canoe toe and ending in the good natured greasy pole conflict!
Ice cream and face painting were enjoyed while the tide rolled in and the crabbing started.
The Holy Trinity Church, Guide Dogs for the Blind, St Andrews Church, RNLI and the HUB club were all represented by stalls, while the Bere Ferrers Women's Institute provided homemade refreshments.
Cllr Robin Musgrave presented a silver tankard to Trevor Grinstead for organising the event for the past nine years.
Trevor, who is leaving the village for pastures new, thanked everyone for attending and for their support, describing it as a team effort.
The watersports will continue, with the next date set for August 18, 2012.
