WITH snow, ice and rain making life difficult all over the country it was a pleasant surprise that the Blundell's Sevens tournament was played in dry, sunny conditions on pitches that were almost perfect. The Mount House team made a slow start, losing a frustrating first group match against King's Hall by 19 points to 5. In the next three matches, the Mount House VII really cut loose for the first time this term. Group wins over Hazlegrove (29-0) and St Michael's, Tawstock (42-0) saw the team into the semi-finals with growing confidence, a combination of aggressive, claustrophobic defence and exciting movement in attack giving the team belief that it could be their day. The semi final, against the hosts Blundell's was one-way traffic as Mount House roared to a 28-0 lead by half time. Changes at the half way point cost the team momentum and a little organisation, but the lead had reached 33-0 before Blundell's registered their first score with the final movement of the match. The final, against King's Hall saw Mount House VII start with real purpose and exerted a degree of pressure on a talented King's side. By the final whistle the Mount boys earned a well-deserved 17- 0 victory. Try scorers were Davies (5), Zervudachi (5), Mann E (4), Cousens (3), Sale O (2) and Salmon. Davies kicked 13 conversions.
