HAVING read through the Times for the last three months, I note the interest shown in free parking in the centre of Tavistock, encouraging the use of the shopping centre, Post Office and Pannier Market. I was very disappointed as a conscientious senior citizen to receive a parking fine for £60 on Good Friday and would like to warn others about using the PO/Spar Shop car park. This allows 30 minutes parking free of charge when using the shop. Usually it is fine to go to the post office with a parcel, pick up a paper and run one errand. However, this time there was a delay processing the post as most of the staff were on holiday and although I was quick with my one errand to Scruples to pick up a watch and back, I got caught by an additional three minutes. So be warned! This was especially irritating as it was my birthday and my Easter holiday visitor had actually been able to get here by train via Dawlish after the terrible winter storms!
