A TAVISTOCK sportsman travelled to France to compete in a classic and challenging triathlon.

Mike Gray, from Tavistock Triathlon Club, set out to complete the Alped'Huez Triathlon which consists of a 2.2 km swim, 115km bike, followed by a 22km run. This iconic event begins with a swim in the beautiful lake surrounded by mountains into a massive bike section which includes following the Tour de France course up the 13.8 km, 21 hairpin mountain to the top of Alpe d'Huez. Then Mike had to run at 1,850m altitude for a distance greater than a Half Marathon.

The driving rain, cold and hailstones made the whole event exhilarating and wild! Mike completed the event in a total time of 8 hours, 54 minutes. He is pleased with his result and is already planning new challenges in the near future!
