A MEMORIAL ceremony for the man who spearheaded the campaign against Ash Moor Pit was held last Saturday.

Friends and family of Ron Dawson, founder of STAMP (Stop The Ash Moor Pit), gathered to plant a birch tree in his memory at the northern end of Ash Moor.

Mr Dawson was a staunch opponent of Government plans to use the site for disposal of hundreds of animal carcasses during the height of the foot and mouth crisis three years ago.

Mr Dawson remained at the forefront of the fight against the pit, until just weeks before his death from cancer last December, aged 44.

Friend and STAMP colleague Joe Skinner said Mr Dawson had fought a ?tireless? campaign against the pit and it was a tribute to him that there are no carcasses in Ash Moor and the site was now being restored to its original state.
