A VOLUNTEERS' Fair is being held in Okehampton today (Thursday) to bring together local organistaions and potential volunteers as part of Volunteers' Week.

Volunteers' Week is a national celebration of volunteers and volunteering which takes place from June 1 to 7 each year.

The week aims to promote innovative ways of thanking, recruiting and involving volunteers and raising the profile of the work of the UK's 22-million volunteers. Now in its 20th year, Volunteers' Week is a well-established event.

The fair has been organised by Okehampton and District CVS and Volunteer Bureau and is taking place between 11am and 3pm at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton.

Sue Bizley, the Volunteer Bureau co-ordinator at Okehampton, said: 'You can sign up on the day, but even if you're not interested in becoming a volunteer now, come along and take a look at the range of opportunities that are available — you will be amazed.

'We can find something for everyone, whatever their interests.'

Karen Nolan, CVS chief officer said: 'Volunteering can be such a good way to meet people and get to know an area, especially if you have just arrived, so come along and see what is on offer.'
