THE third in a series of ?stonecarrying? walks along ancient pilgrim routes in West Devon took place in the Burrator area recently. The walkers, led by Terry Faull, made their way to Meavy Parish Hall, where a very successful and lively workshop took place involving singing and African drumming. Tavistock?s new mayor Caroline Keane told the walkers about her experiences in Zimbabwe, which sparked the stonecarrying walks in West Devon. One of the aims of the walks is to build up ancient pilgrim trails ? each walk focuses on a colour and walkers are encouraged to use this as a theme for their own stone and the community stone. The Burrator walk was the red walk. Each walker carried a riband of red to focus on the sense of adventure, curisoity, awe, wonder and emotional flexibility which is associated with the colour. During the workshop, there was drumming led by two master drummers from Zimbabwe and Ghana and singing of Zimbabwean songs led by Susan Duncan and accompanied by a traditional instrument, the Mbira. The fourth walk in the series, the Lavendar Walk, leaves Meavy Village Hall car park on Sunday June 25 at 2pm, walking across the moors to Horrabridge Village Hall, where another workshop with tea will be provided from 3.30pm onwards.
