The team were just pipped to the national semi final by Sholing School, whose squad beat them 2-1 in a thrilling encounter at Southampton FC?s premiership stadium, St Mary?s.
Cllr Norma Woodcock entertained the team in the town hall on Monday, her penultimate official engagement before stepping down as mayor on Tuesday.
Cllr Woodcock said: ?We are really delighted for the girls ? this is a wonderful achievement and they have done Tavistock proud.?
During their day at Southampton, the girls were treated like VIPs by sponsors Coca Cola and are all due to receive a video of their exciting experience, including the build-up to the match, the game itself and a presentation and reception in the Matt le Tissier suite.
Captain Amy Campbell said: ?It was a really, really good day ? very exciting.
?For the first ten minutes of the match it was really nerve-wracking, but once we started getting used to it, it was OK ? it was a very hard game though.
?The whole thing was amazing ? a fantastic experience.?
Tamsin Bryant, whose goal put Tavistock into the lead during the first half, said scoring in a match on a premiership pitch was an experience she would never forget.
Tavistock College principal John Simes, who travelled up to Southampton to watch the game, said: ?It was wonderful to see the students playing at a premiership ground ? they were really treated like VIPs and the experience was something they?ll never forget.
?I think we felt every twist and turn during the game, it was very exciting and we are so proud of them.?
Mr Simes said all players would be awarded ?principal?s commendations? for their superb performance in the competition and hoped the girls would be inspired to continue playing as they progressed through the school.
