Carlsberg South Western League Penryn Athletic 3 Tavistock 1 THE Lambs were without the suspended John Hajiyianni, injured Sean Cann and the unavailable Shane Krac attending his father?s wedding. But with Dave Hallett returning from injury and Mark Conday being available they still had a strong starting line. It was a good start that saw Hallett shoot wide and Will Stringer?s volley from distance at keeper Chris Symonds saw him having to palm the ball over the bar. Penryn?s first effort saw Ben Goldring shoot wide after 12 minutes. From a corner Gary Williams cleared off the line with Nigel Pugh having to clear the danger minutes later. The Lambs were then dealt a blow with Conday suffering a hamstring injury to be replaced by Simon Skews after just a quarter of an hour. Both sides continued to create chances with Glynn Hobbs firing wide after 25 minutes and Skews winning a corner moments later for Williams to cross but Nigel Pugh?s header went wide. The home side went ahead just after the half hour mark when a throw in on the half way line saw a missed tackle let in Steve Rowson to combine with Richard Young and James Miller for the latter to race away and shoot under Andy Meeds. Penryn then had the ball in the net 10 minutes later from a corner but it was ruled out for an infringement with the Lambs responding from a quick breakaway. But Hobbs just failed to connect with Meeds denying Matt Drummond and Miller shooting wide just prior to the interval. Two bad mistakes in midfield by the Lambs let in Richard Young to slot home but they were let off the hook with a player in an offside position. The Lambs came right back into the game on 53 minutes when from a Hallett corner Pugh headed home powerfully at the far post to draw level 1-1. Meeds then denied Drummond for the second time on the hour and Hobbs crossed in for the Lambs for Hallett and James Steer to both have a stab at the chance. Penryn got themselves in front after 65 minutes when Rowson broke down the right to cross in low that was not dealt with in front of goal to allow Young to slot home past Meeds from close range 2-1. Matt Martin then came on for the injured Pugh but the home side increased their lead on 73 minutes in controversial fashion. It looked offside as Drummond went down the left but no flag left the Lambs exposed as Meeds beat out Drummond?s effort followed by Rowson?s attempt and when he tried to follow up he tumbled for the referee to award a penalty. Despite vociferous appeals from the Tavistock bench Rowson picked himself up to slot home to make it 3-1. The Lambs could have quite easily drawn level with 10 minutes remaining with two chances in a minute as John Morris headed wide from a Williams cross and Hobbs failed to chip the keeper when Dean Harris missed a Martin through ball.
